Noted Roman Catholic Preacher from India Visits Southern
Ukraine
Odesa
-- Fr. James Manjackal, a noted Roman Catholic preacher from India, at
the invitation of the Odesa and Simferopol diocese of the Roman Catholic
Church visited southern Ukrainian Odesa and Mykolaiv from 9 to 14 June
2005. Fr. Manjackal held a three-day retreat in the Assumption Cathedral
in Odesa where he met with pilgrims from many regions of Ukraine as well
as from neighboring Moldova.
“Undoubtedly, Fr. James has a flair for preaching,” said Roman Catholic
Bishop Bronislaw Bernacki of the Odesa and Simferopol diocese. “Many people
attended the retreat to listen to the word of God, pray and worship the
Lord. I do hope that the fire of prayer which sparked in the hearts of
our faithful thanks to this passionate preacher will be supported by our
priests. The power of prayer does miracles, and I believe in a change for
our people and communities.”
Biographical note: Fr. James Manjackal was born on 18 April 1946 at
Cheruvally, Kottayam, Kerala in South India, and was ordained a priest
on 23 April 1973 in the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Francis
de Sales (M.S.F.S) of the South West Province of India. In 1989 he founded
Charis Bhavan, a Charismatic retreat centre in Kerala, where he remained
as its director and superior for six years. The Congregation of the Missionaries
of Saint Francis de Sales has made his ministry available for the universal
church. Now he resides at Mermier Bhavan, Bangalore, continuing the ministry
of evangelization among Christians and non-Christians alike both in and
outside the country.
